As we are a charity, we organise a variety of fundraising events every year which have proven to be very popular in the community and have helped Northcote tremendously. With the help of our staff, friends of Northcote, volunteers, family members and people from the community we have successfully raised enough funds to buy a new minibus for our residents so they can benefit from outings, as well as a lovely summer house.
We always aim to provide the best for our residents; and because we never run out of ideas our latest cause is to raise funds for a sensory room. A sensory room is a special room designed to develop a person’s sense, usually through special lighting, music, and objects. It would offer our residents another opportunity to engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities whilst helping to improve mood and promote a sense of well-being. Sensory rooms promote social skills and open up a window of communication and connection. They also reduce agitation, anxiety and boredom and trigger treasured memories. This is something we would like for our residents and, with a bit of luck and your help, hopefully it will be in the near future.
Every spring we gather for our annual Daffodil Tea for a lovely morning and a slice of something nice in the company of our dear residents. Reception staff, management team and friends of Northcote take great pleasure in organising this event and setting up the home ready for the day. Everyone does something towards the event, be it baking cakes, helping serve teas, selling tickets or tidying up at the end of the day to bring off one of our most popular fundraising events. If you are feeling lucky, buy raffles and tombola tickets!
During August we host one of our biggest events, which is ‘The Northcote Gala’. Every year we keep our fingers crossed tightly for favourable weather. However, it is always very well attended and we have fun whatever the weather! We have a bouncy castle for the kids, face painting and games (adults are welcome to join in of course!!) Our Head Chef also provides an excellent barbeque, which is not to be missed. There’s also an opportunity to take a look around our care home and meet our friendly team.
It’s big. It’s pink and anything goes!
We will be organising another fundraiser this October on ‘Pink Day’ to help raise money for people facing breast cancer and also to add to our fundraising efforts for our residents. Last year the staff, residents and relatives all wore something ‘pink’ on the day. Whether it be a dress, cardigan, shoes or a flower (optional for men!!), any pink goes!! There will be home baking, a raffle and crafts on sale.
November is a busy month in our events calendar. We couldn’t let the month go by without a celebration, ‘Northcote’ style. This is usually a private event for our residents and relatives and is marked with beautiful display of fireworks! Watch out for the bang!
Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate Christmas with us and we would be delighted if you could join us. The raffle feature some much sought after prizes including a Christmas luxury hamper.
Raffle, mince pies and live entertainment! – What else could you wish for from Santa? Last Christmas Elvis got the party started and it was an afternoon to remember!
